Puppy Training

Private Lessons

Did you know that puppies go through critical developmental phases? Did you know that not all puppies need the same experiences to best suit their development? Research shows that puppies are most impressionable during their first 5 months of life.

This time period is called the “Optimal Socialization” period. However, the term socialization insinuates the wrong idea to most people. When most people hear “socialization” they think their dog must meet every dog they come across and go to dog parks. This can be incredibly dangerous and counterproductive. A dog owners job at this time is to guide their puppy through life in a safe manner and teach them how to feel emotionally well and comfortable in all situations

During this time period you must provide your dog with the right amount of exposure to as many different types of people, dogs, surfaces, sounds and common situations as possible. Puppies need to be taught how to be comfortable with being handled, going to new places, being crated etc. This time period also coincides with potty training, teething and puppy play biting.

Sound like a lot to navigate on your own? Raising a puppy is absolutely overwhelming! Let us help you get it right from the start.

Rookie of the year (for puppies under 6 months)

Getting a new puppy is a very exciting time, it can also be a very confusing time. Puppies, as adorable as they can be, come to us knowing absolutely nothing about how to live harmoniously in our human world. Problem behaviors such as jumping, barking, play biting, potty training, chewing, whining, barking etc. can be very frustrating to deal with and can negatively affect your relationship with your dog.

Make no mistake about it you aren’t just training your puppy you are RAISING your puppy. We go deep into how to live harmoniously with your puppy by establishing proper household management, rules and creating an optimal relationship between you and your dog with the right balance of trust, safety, respect and fun.

We frequently train in public settings with puppies to ensure they have enough early experience and exposure in their developmental stages to help them become the most sound and composed adults they can possibly be. They’re only puppies once, make sure you get it right from the start!

Off Leash Training and Advanced Distraction Training

Private Lessons

Off leash training adds a lot of fun and freedom to your dog’s life. When a dog is trained to handle that freedom responsibly it adds a lot to their quality of life. Your dog will be able to play fetch with you, go hiking with you, play tug or chasing games, be called away from very distracting things like other dogs or wild animals and even go camping with you. Essentially the more a dog is capable of doing the more enjoyable both of your lives will be together.

Advanced distraction/in public training is for anyone who wants to do more with their dog and desires a well behaved dog in public. If you’d like to go to pet friendly stores, parks, restaurants with a pet friendly area or be able to walk your dog in busy downtown areas, this lesson is for you.

Off Leash and Advanced distraction training can be purchased individually or together as add ons to our obedience and relaxation lessons. The MVP includes the Essentials of Dog Training lesson includes the Starter lesson.

K9 Nose Work

Private Lessons And Group

K9 nose work is a dog sport that is rapidly growing in popularity. The reason we are such big fans of this dog sport is that virtually every dog can participate even if they are older or have disabilities. K9 nose work teaches dogs to use their nose to locate specific odors ( essential oils. ) The act of searching simulates hunting behavior and is highly biologically fulfilling to dogs.

This activity is highly enjoyable for dogs and is both mentally and physically stimulating. This is a perfect activity for dogs to do during our colder months of the year. During warmer months we will be offering group classes outside at local parks and forest preserves and we offer private lessons all year round ( this is a great option for reactive and aggressive dogs ). We enjoy working with hobbyists and competitors.
